Good Food
The Good Food building is a conjunction of multiple and varied programs centered around a common set of interests- food awareness and education.
Precedent Study:
This project began with a precedent study of the Museum of Archaeology by Francisco Mangado. In My chunk model, I explored manipulating the transparencies of the walls of the building exposing structure and program so they would read like solids or objects. In the drawing, I was interested in seeing how the vertical elements in structure, program, and envelope collapse into density.
Mid-Review Concept Model:
Final Drawings and Final Model:
I use the dynamic form of a spiral to continue the circulation from the sidewalk up and into the building. The spiral is serendipitoulsy cut by the bounds of the site and the volumetric bounds of the floor plates (static forms), creating phenomenally transparent spaces and thresholds. The facade of the building is parametrically informed by sunlight analysis and research by Neri Oxman at the MIT Media Lab. The bumps on the facade direct air into the building and up through the spiral, the lips on the bumps act as a passive sun-shading strategy.
Analyitic Drawings:
This set of drawings explores the opportunities of phenomenal transparency during procession.
This set of drawing shows different views of the spiral, its ellipitcal nature, and how it is cut by the bounds of the site.
