EMERGENCE-PARADIGM

Hell on Earth. California is on fire. Architecture is in dire need of a paradigm shift regarding housing construction in California. Current housing construction practices favor cheap and quick methods that do not take into account the dramatic increase of wildfires in California. Construct. Burn. Construct the same. Repeat.

This project proposes a dwelling for Isa in Sonoma; Isa is a chef who loves to cook outside; therefore, the proposed dwelling displays the experience of eating, cooking, living, and the landscape through voyeuristic views. Given the extreme separations of elevation in the site, site analysis begins in the figure ground, then the separation of light across surface, separation of water, and separation of tectonics all of which culminate to become the final dwelling design. Furthermore, the slope of the site and the building allows water to flow naturally; water always surrounds the building and site in a wet shield preventing fire while providing water for the house and gardens.
